is a former U.S. Navy
land-based patrol squadron formerly based at NAS
Brunswick, ME  flying the P-3C Orion. The Squadron
relocated
to NAS Jacksonville
, Florida in 2009 and was decommissioned
there in 2012. VPU-1 was tasked to undertake research and development. The testing of sensors ear
marked
for the fleet
and
sometimes augmented forward deployed Patrol Squadrons.
VPU-1 Patch is 3.8"x4" with a plastic backing, no hook or pile.
